Kids will love the barnyard themed playground that is Crump Park.
Just down the road from the 295 Staples Mill exit, you will find a triple dose of outdoor fun, and they all share a driveway! Meadow Farm Museum, RF&P Park, and this adorable barnyard-themed playground known as Crump Park. Named for WWI Veteran Major General Sheppard Crump by his widow, Elizabeth Crump when she donated the family’s ancestral property to Henrico County, this corner of the former Crump homestead has been transformed into a playground paradise.
Kids of all ages can climb on and off the stationary train and tractor climbing areas, watch the windmill spin, attempt to climb the giant cornstalks, and even “ride” on a chicken or pig. The main attraction is the Crump Park Barn which houses the slides and ladders but can double as a key location in any imaginary farmyard scenario. Surrounded by swings for all ages, including an ADA-compliant swing, picnic tables, benches, and some rentable shelters, Crump Park makes a great spot to meet friends and family in an easy-breezy outdoor location.
The playground is right next to bathroom facilities and has two parking lots close by. The playground is also one large field away from Meadow Farm Museum, which could act as a mini-hiking destination for the younger set. Of course, the large field is also a great spot to spin in circles! If you choose to walk across the field towards the west, you will be rewarded with a view of a large pond surrounded by a walking path with wooden viewing platforms on either side. The pond has a large fountain that is constantly running in the middle, giving kids and adults of all ages a beautiful scene to take in, and take a deep breath, before going back to the playground to try out the giant saucer of bungee cords!
