An amazing park with playgrounds, picnic shelter, and many attractions such as carousel, train, gem mine, aquarium, nature center, lake, campground, and more.
Only an hour outside of Charlotte, Dan Nicholas Park is a 425-acre park with playgrounds, picnic shelters, splash pad, and many other attractions. It offers a ten-acre lake for paddle boating and fishing. The park has three playgrounds for various ages. It is free to visit the park and playgrounds. There is a small fee for the train, carousel, gem mine, mini-golf, visiting the barnyard and wildlife adventure park, and splash pad. At Wildlife Adventures, you will find bears, wolves, eagles, and a host of other animals. The nature center also has native species of Rowan County. There are several programs for students, teachers, and parents. The animal program, trail walk, owl pellets, and stream walk are just a few of the programs offered by the park.
Just a short walk around the lake, the campground can be found. The campground has 70 sites including rustic cabins. There are 6 cabins located between the 2 bathhouses. They come with heat and air conditioning, beds, a microwave, and a refrigerator. Each cabin also comes with two grills and a table. A water hookup is outside only. The campground has 67 sites with electric and water hookups with several sites that are pull-through for those bigger RVs. Each site can have tents, but tents are not allowed by the cabins. The campsites also come with a grill, table, and fire ring. There is also a dump station on-site for when you leave. This is a great way to spend the weekend camping while also visiting all the attractions. The sites are graciously spaced with some lining the lake for lake views. A neat part of staying at the campground is hearing the animals at night from the Wildlife Adventure.
This place is perfect for a day or weekend of family fun. Always check the website or Facebook page to see which attractions are open.
