Douglas Park in West Linn is the perfect little park hidden in a quiet and safe neighborhood.
The park is very small, and the parking lot only has a few spots, making it less crowded than other parks. There are two entrances into the park. One enters the parking lot off of Rogue Way, which is wedged between two private homes. You have to keep an eye out for the sign when driving, otherwise it is easy to miss. The other enterance is a path off of Haskins Road where there is street parking. This entrance has the name also, so keep an eye out for it, but Google Maps will not lead you to this entrance, it will lead you to the parking lot entrance.
The park has an open green space, a small paved loop, and two plagrounds.
The green space is great for playing ball or other activities that require lots of space. The small paved loop is often used by younger kids on bikes or scooters learning to ride. The first playgound is easy to find and right next to the green space down a set of stairs. It is the big kids playground and has a double slide, a spiral swing, a tire swing, monkey bars, a climbing structure, and a few more surprises. The smaller playground is behind the rose bushes next to the big kids area. This playground is designed for babies and toddlers. This area is rarely occupied and very safe for those who are just starting to walk or crawl. You can access it is by continuing to walk down the paved path next to the bigger playground. It has a small slide connected to a pretend train structure and two small baby swings.
During berry season, you can find berries all over the park to pick and enjoy while playing there. We've spotted bunnies, hawks, bald eagles and squirrels here during out visit. The park also has a half court basketball court for kids who want to play ball.
If you go during sunset hours, you can catch a beautiful view of the sun setting and the sky changing colors.
The park is a four-minute drive to downtown Willamette. You can drive to after the park to enjoy a smoothie at Para Juice Bar or lunch at Lil' Cooperstown Bar and Grill. In addition, there is a pizza place, coffee shops, and other restuarants located downtown.
The park has a few benches and picnic tables that are usually open and great for a enjoying lunch or a snack at. The grass area also makes a cute picnic area.
There are no bathrooms so plan accordingly.
Tip: The baby swing tends to be straight in the sun, so bring sunscreen and/or hat for baby during the warmer days.
