Are you headed out to Lincoln City? Don't forget to stop at Drift Creek Falls!
Drift Creek Falls is an out-and-back 3.2-mile hike with 541 feet elevation gain. The 75-foot waterfall and 240-foot long suspension bridge crossing Drift Creek is the highlight of this hike. The suspension bridge can make you nauseous or uneasy if you are afraid of heights, but it's usually a short walk.
This trail is perfect for the whole family, including the dogs. We recently went with a group of friends with kids ranging from infants to four years old. You can take a big wheel stroller, but I would highly recommend using a carrier due to the muddy ground or having to go over logs. The trail is wide, which is nice when others are passing by. There are benches, or you can find a log to sit and snack. There's a great spot for a photo of your group after the bridge with a log you can sit on with the bridge and waterfall in the background.
Vault toilets are at the trailhead and are as clean as can be. The parking lot is on the smaller side, so I recommend going on the earlier side. Northwest Forest Pass is required for parking. The road to the trailhead is very narrow, so drive slowly and make room for others to pass. If you turn left on Nf-17 from the parking lot, you can head to Lincoln city or turn right to head back to Portland.
Tip: It can get crowded, especially during the summer. Make a day trip out of it, visit Lincoln City, and find glass globes or camp at Devil's Lake.
