Discovery this easy, hidden walk through the woods, extremely dog-friendly and fun for kids!

When you arrive at Egan Field, you’ll immediately see the large soccer and lacrosse fields, as well as a basketball court. The lot has plenty of parking, various picnic tables in the grass, and a field house with bathrooms.

The secret, tucked at the back of the parking lot, is an entrance to a nature trail loop. It’s about a mile with a fairly smooth, wide walking path and moderate inclines. If you’re bringing a stroller, make sure it’s all-terrain. There are also some smaller paths through the woods if you’re feeling adventurous. We love to walk here with our dog and meet all of the other dogs out for a woods hike (sometimes you may need to watch your step). It’s never very busy so you’ll feel perfectly peaceful as you stroll under the trees. Most of the year, the trees provide ample shade so it feels cool even in summer. During the winter, the sun breaks through the leaf-less trees making it an especially fun walk after snow.

Aside from meeting new dog friends, we love to veer off the path to the freshwater creek that runs along the north side. There are a few different points where it’s easy to walk down, and you can walk along the creek for a bit instead of the main path. It’s great fun for little kids to throw rocks into the water or try to cross along a rock path. Since it’s an easy hike, wearing sandals or water shoes allows for easy water play, and a towel in the car can help with a quick clean-up before returning home.
