Escape the city and step into this small nature oasis at Ellanor Lawrence Park.
Ellanor C. Lawrence park is a large park with so much to do. While the park attractions are very spread out and will require driving between them they are worth it! There is a nature center with live animal exhibits and a children's play area inside the Walney Visitor Center. The visitor center has a parking lot, a stroller-friendly trail to reach the building and bathrooms! There are also classrooms here where interpretive programs are held. Next to and behind the visitor center are some historical structures with interpretive signs and gardens. They also do beekeeping here and have signs noting where in case you have a bee sting allergy.
There are some nature trails that leave from this area but these are definitely not stroller-friendly. If you are looking for a gentler walk, there is a paved trail around a pond which also has a parking lot, and across the street from the pond is another parking lot for the Big Rocky Run Trail. This trail is paved, shaded and follows a creek!
Ellanor C. Lawrence park does have a playground and athletic fields but these are a five minute drive away from the other trails and visitor center on the other side of Route 28. Using Ellanor C. Lawrence Athletic Complex in your GPS is helpful. Here there are many sports fields, a basketball court, and two playground structures. There are no swings but the playgrounds have a variety of rock walls and slides. This part of the park has porta potties and a ton of parking since these fields are heavily utilized in the evening and on weekends.
