Stroll, play, or picnic at Foothills Park and Roehr Park Trail!
As you drive up to the parking lot at Foothill Park you will immediately see why it’s featured on happyly! The beautiful pavilion with tons of cafe tables, lots and lots of grass, a beautiful cantilever viewpoint over the river, and flush restrooms make this park a fun and beautiful adventure for any family! While this park does not have a playground it has tons of space for your littles to run around. And the viewpoint over the river really is breathtaking! Perched over the water with a little bench in the center you get a great view of the river and its shoreline. It is quite large, so even on a busy day you should have enough room to take it all in.
On the Move!
This spot is a great starting point to a half-day adventure! My family and I love having lunch or a snack at the cafe tables and then walking or scootering down the path! If you head north there is a beautiful art installation with quotes about the forest and Oregon. The path ends shortly after this piece of art with a sitting area made out of rocks. If you turn around and head south there is much to explore! You pass the cantilever and the parking lot and turn left to continue along the riverside to Roehr Park. This park includes the lighted trail along the river and viewpoints over the river and an amphitheater. The viewpoints are large industrial spheres with walkways well above the water. This park also houses some remnants of the Oregon Iron and Steel Company, including a crucible. It is 1.8 miles out and back from Foothill Park to the end of the Roehr Park trail. The trail is paved but not super smooth so it might be tricky for a child new to biking or scootering.
There is plenty of parking at Foothill Park as well as restrooms.
Keep the Good Times Rolling
I usually pair this adventure with a quick stop to Salt and Straw in Lake Oswego. You can walk or bike or drive. It is half a mile away from the Foothill Park parking lot.
