The Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve Is a Great Spot for Families to Enjoy Lake Views and Wildlife.
If your family enjoys hiking around water, this is the trail for you! This easy two-mile trail is well marked and relatively flat but the terrain can be rough so strollers are not recommended. There is a shorter accessible trail that follows the water’s edge with some boardwalk sections, viewing platforms, and ADA compliant picnic tables. Here strollers and wheelchairs have access to the beautiful forest and lake views.
The forest is peaceful and the trees are especially pretty in the fall. There’s also a colorful rocky area and a bridge on the main trail. What makes this hike extra fun is the Island Bridges trail which is a thin strip of land and a few bridges that allows passage across the top of the lake. There are also thoughtfully placed benches along the trail if you want to stop and enjoy the scenery. Parts of the trail can get wet so plan footwear accordingly. Leashed dogs are allowed so you don’t need to leave your furry friends at home!
Small boats, canoes, or kayaks are allowed on the lake from April 1 – November 15 so you’ll most likely see boaters if you visit on a nice day during that time. Boats are also available to rent from Ramsey Outdoor weekdays, 10am-5pm.
The picnic area has several tables offering a quiet area to enjoy lunch next to the lake. There is a portable toilet located at the back of the parking lot.
