Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park has everything you need for a great adventure day.
This large 120-acre park is located on the Columbia River and has a wide variety of recreational activities. They have two covered reservable shelters, lots of picnic tables, a playground, drinking fountains, flush toilets, sand volleyball courts, and kid-friendly flat paved bike paths. There is a 2.5-mile flat trail that connects Frenchman’s Bar to Vancouver Lake if you’re looking to extend your day even longer. Explore both parks!
Their playground area has a couple of baby swings, a couple of regular swings, a play structure with a couple of slides, and some climbing equipment. We love this area of the park because it’s right next to bathrooms, a sandy beach area, picnic tables, the playground, and biking paths.
The two picnic shelters can be rented but also used on a first come first served basis if it is not being reserved. The larger of the two shelters has picnic tables, bbq grill, sink with cold water, electrical outlets, and garbage cans.
Swimming is not recommended at Frenchman’s Bar because there can be steep drop-offs into the Columbia River that can not be seen from the beach. If you’re looking to take them swimming, you can go a couple of miles away to Vancouver Lake.
The sand volleyball courts can be reserved by the hour but are available on a first-come-first-serve basis if it’s not being reserved. The nets are usually up May-October, although when I went last in March the nets were up.
Because of the wide paved paths; this park is great for strollers, bikers, walkers, and runners.
Within the park, there is a handful of easy-to-find Geocaches. There are six more at a nearby bike path for those just starting out or want easy kid-friendly geocaches to find.
Dogs are allowed here at the park on leash and make sure to pick up after your pets.
There is a kiosk as you enter the park that accepts credit cards. It is $3 per car or free if you walk or bike into the park.
