Fumee Falls is a short visit but a lovely spot you don't want to miss.

Located near Quinnesc, right off of Highway 2, Fumee Falls is the perfect spot to see a little waterfall. This is a popular stop for folks traveling to stretch their legs, do a quick hike, have lunch, take a bathroom break, and get back on the road. You can hear the falls from the parking lot, and from there, it is a short walk. There are no trail markers, but it's easy to find. Just follow the path, over the footbridge, and you will see the falls.

There are a good amount of stairs to get to the top of the falls so if you are up for the climb, go check it out. However this makes it not a stroller, wheelchair, or ADA friendly. During the warmer months, poison ivy grows pretty abundantly in the area, so be sure to stay on the trail.

The water flow is pretty heavy during spring and fall but will usually slow down during the summer. This is one of the few waterfalls that eventually flows into Lake Michigan via the Menominee River. There are several plaques with the Menominee Iron Range history if you are interested in learning a little more about it.

So whether you stop off to stretch your legs or just want a quick trip to a waterfall, Fumee Falls is one you won't want to miss. Check it out the next time you are traveling along Highway 2. If you want a longer hike, head to the Fumee Lake Natural Area with hiking, biking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing, which is close by as well.
