Explore sixteen hands-on exhibits and a big outdoor area for creative play at Gilbert House Children's Museum.
Geared towards ages two to ten, this museum has so much to offer. There's a bubble room and creative space, a veterinarian room, and tot rooms. These are some of my kids' favorite areas. The large area outside has many slides, a sand pit, and a maze. Food is not allowed inside, but there's a seating area outside where you can have a snack or small lunch. They do not sell any food, but they are located close to downtown Salem with many restaurants close by.
Since this museum was created by turning three Victorian homes into a mueum, there are no elevators. If a wheelchair is needed, you won't be able to access the upstairs of the houses or the maze structure outside. They charge half the admission since you will only be able to access half the museum. There is no stroller parking so I would suggest using a carrier if you can. Admission cost is for everyone including babies. We were able to get in for free by using our library's cultral pass. Look to see if your library has any offers for the Gilbert Hous Museum. If you are a nursing mother, you can nurse anywhere you like, but there is also a room in the tinker tracks for more privacy.
There's a small parking lot that is free under the bridge. There is also metered street parking that the city monitors often.
Gilbert House is so close to Riverfront Park that you can add on a park for more adventure. There's a playground, covered shelters, and a carousel.
Tip: currently everyone over five years old has to wear a mask.
