The Green Mountain Nature Trail Is a Nice Hike Around Sky Lake.
Green Mountain Nature Trail is located in Huntsville, AL. It’s about 20-30 minutes away from Madison, AL. The trail goes around Sky Lake and is also known as the Madison County Nature Trail. The trail is about 1.5 miles long, but it can be cut even shorter to just under a mile. The cut-through location is on the far side of the lake. It’s a nice place for families to explore nature and be with their kids. The surface of the trail is mostly dirt and gravel. Overall, the trail is flat and manageable for all skill levels.
Along the trail, you pass through a couple of wooden bridges and a covered bridge. There are lots of benches along the way to sit and relax. Within the hike, there is a pavilion, chapel, picnic tables, and an outdoor classroom. One of the sitting areas has a nice garden area with a super quaint and tranquil waterfall. Overall this place is peaceful, and you can connect to the outdoors nicely. I would bring a picnic when you are done or even for along the way. Since daylight hours always vary, the park’s closing time varies, but a sign outside the entrance will have the closing time.
There are lots of neat trees and an abundant amount of wildlife. If you want to bring dogs, please have them on a leash out of respect for other visitors and the environment around the trail. I would recommend bringing a camera or phone to capture the pretty landscape over the lake and trails. There are multiple outlooks to catch some good views. In the fall, the reflection of the leaves on the lake is stunning.
Enjoy the hike!
