Musical History & Family Fun Intersect in Northwest, DC
Harrison Playground tucked away behind the busy U Street corridor, was renovated as part of the Play DC Playground initiative, and they did a great job of making the space fun and educational for children ranging in ages and interests.
The playground features a musical theme to complement the deep musical history of the surrounding neighborhood. There is a small splash pad at the front of the park and then two, distinct, fenced areas, one designed for smaller children and the other for older kids.
There is a baseball field adjacent to the park, as well as a basketball court, and bathroom facilities in the rec center when it is open.
This park is not large and it can be crowded with kids of all ages – including teenagers, who often meet at the rec center and use the basketball court. Parking is limited to zoned street parking, but the playground is within walking distance of the U Street/Cardozo Metro stop.
Food And Attractions Nearby
If you’re hungry, there are a variety of delicious restaurants, including Busboys and Poets on U Street. Only a block away there is a fantastic new Anthony Bowen YMCA facility, with a pool, gym, and childcare (membership required to use all of these facilities).
Additionally, Matchbox, Ted's Bulletin, and Ice Cream Jubilee are both around a five-minute walk from the playground, and Sweetgreen is only about two minutes on foot.
If you have time for another playground, or Harrison is especially crowded, head over to Meridian Hill Playground, just a five-minute walk toward Adams Morgan.
