Hastings Dairy Store is a must-stop when you take your next day trip to historic Hastings.

This storefront has been around since I was a kiddo and was always a must-stop when my dad was in the area. It's a popular stop with local Hastings residents, not just a "tourist" stop. Lots of locals have memories of coming here as a child, and I am glad that we live nearby to bring my littles. When you step inside, it's evident that nothing has changed in years. It's the same setup with coolers on one side, a small counter, and a spot to order soft-serve ice cream.

The soft-serve ice cream here is light. They always have chocolate and vanilla and then another flavor of the week or month. That flavor isn't posted online but you can call ahead to find out. My son loves the mint flavor. They only have two sizes: small or large and they don't have lids. It's just a cup with a spoon. If I had a toddler, I might bring something to pour it in to avoid a mess. It's such a great treat on a hot summer day without leaving you feeling full because of the way it's made. It's isn't your typical thick or heavy ice cream. 

Be sure to grab a gallon of milk or cheese curds to bring home with you. Many locals prefer to hold milk here vs. chain grocery stores because it's cheaper and tastes better. Add this to your must-stop list when visiting Historic Hastings. It's the perfect place to take a day trip from the Twin Cities.
