The town's largest park awaits at Henry Anderson III Community Park.
Located in the town of Carrboro, just west of Chapel Hill, Henry Anderson III Community Park has a playground, fishing pond, walking trail, disc golf, dog park, baseball/ softball fields, multipurpose field, basketball courts, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, picnic pavilion, and restrooms. All these activities fit inside a 55-acre park. The playground features a large play structure, smaller play structure, and swing set. The large play structure, geared towards five to twelve, has several slides, monkey bars, rock climbing, steps, tunnels, and a tic tac toe board. The second play structure, geared towards preschool-aged, has several slides, steps, a tunnel, and climbing. In this area, there is also a rock climbing tunnel and music station with drums and bells to hit. The two playground areas both have mulch surfaces and are surrounded by mature trees. The play areas are well shaded making it a great location for summer play.
The walking trail is half of a mile and goes around the pond. The trail is made from small gravel and a natural surface. Flat enough for pushing a stroller or riding a bike. The trail is well shaded and great for walking in the summer. The pond has benches to stop and take in the view or do some fishing. The 18-hold disco golf course runs behind the playground and dog park. The start to tee one is near the entrance to the park. The signage for each hole is lacking and the trails can get pretty mucky when it's rained. Overall it's a good course for beginners and intermediate players wanting to work on their skills.
The athletic fields are mostly used by leagues and are all lighted. There are also the tennis courts and sand volley courts are near each other while the basketball courts are by all the athletic fields. The dog park is near the entrance of the park.
This is a great park to come and hang out for the morning, afternoon, or all day. So check out Henry Anderson III Community Park for your next family-friendly adventure.
