Soak up the summer at High Tor, a New York State Park.

Located in New City, High Tor State Park is a day-use park with scenic hiking and a public pool with a concession stand. High Tor State Park is 691 acres which are home to South Mountain with the peaks named High Tor and Little Tor. They are the highest peaks not only in the park but in all of the Hudson Palisades. The skyline of New York City can be seen from the top of High Tor. High Tor was used as a signal point for the colonist in the American Revolution.

The Little Tor trail is a short 1.7 mile out and back trail with views of the Hudson Valley and River. You can access this trail from the pool area parking lot. The trail had a decent ascent to the top but luckily the trail isn't too long. It's a great reward for a little effort when you see the views at the top. Bring a snack for the kids to sit and enjoy the view. The trail can be difficult after rain so I would wait for it to dry up a bit before going. The trail is pretty shaded so it makes for a great hike during the summer, then after you can hit the pool.  During the off-season you can find parking on Little Tor road with access to Long Path then from that you can get onto this trail.

The pool at High Tor State Park brings in visitors all summer long. There are two pools. One small pool that's only two feet deep for younger kids. The other pool is larger and has diving boards and deep water. The pools are completely fenced and have some bench seating inside. Bring some chairs to sit around the pool. Mature trees around the pool keep parts of it shaded throughout the day. Near the pool, there are picnic and bbq areas to enjoy with the family.

Whether you're looking for a scenic hike across historic land or a relaxing dip in the pool, High Tor State Park is a tranquil getaway.
