Hinshaw is a fantastic greenway that runs between Marla Dorrel Park and MacDonald Woods Park.
Located south of Cary, Hinshaw Greenway is a 1.7 miles of asphalt surface path that is great for running, bike ride, stroller, or anyway you want to enjoy it. You can start the greenway at either Marla Dorrel Park or MacDonald Woods Park. The greenway crosses US Hwy 64 on a pedestrian bridge that is also a site of a public art installation, Bowstring Vines. It also runs along the Swift Creek watershed and has some large beech trees just off the trail. The greenway is mostly shaded but does have some open sections. During the warmer months don't forget to bring water. There are benches scattered along the greenway for good stopping points to relax or take a break. This is an easy greenway with some minor steep slopes. During the winter some of the more shaded areas can get icy so be aware during the colder months.
Hinshaw Greenway also connects with the Pirate Cove Greenway by the US Hwy 64 near MacDonald Woods Park and the Piney Planes Greenway on the Marla Dorrel Park side of US Hwy 64.
Both Marla Dorrel Park and MacDonald Woods Park have fantastic playgrounds. This would make a perfect day of playing at one park and biking or strolling to the next park to play. There is more parking at Marla Dorrel Park than there is at MacDonald Woods Park. I would recommend parking at Marla Dorrel Park. Either direction you can't go wrong and it makes for a great way to get some exercise and play.
