Ike Kinswa State Park is less than two hours from Seattle and Portland but feels worlds away sitting along Mayfield Lake.

Take your boat out to fish for bass and trout, enjoy a leisurely kayak around the lake, or soak up some sun while you watch the kids splash in the designated swimming area. Ike Kinswa is 421 acres of relaxation. The day-use site includes 52 unsheltered picnic tables, 2.5 miles of trails, a playground, and horseshoe pits.

The campground sits within a grove of tall trees, providing shade to nearly all sites. There are 31 standard sites, 41 full utility sites, and 31 additional sites with electricity and water. Utility sites can accommodate RVs and trucks up to 60 feet long.

Ike Kinswa is open year-round and lends itself well to off-season camping with nine heated cabins. Each 12’x24’ two-room cabin sleeps five people. Every cabin has a 6-foot covered front porch, picnic table, electric heat, indoor dining table, bunk beds, a couch/futon, locking doors, and a fire grill outside. Bathrooms are just a short walk away, and there are also heated showers. Having that second room to the cabin is a life-saver when you have littles who need a quiet space to nap! And, if you’re not a seasoned camper, state park cabins can be a great way to ease into a new hobby.

Be aware that bed linens for the cabins are not provided, nor is there a kitchen. So bring your camp stove, fire up the provided grill, or roast some hot dogs over the fire pit! The paths around the campground are paved and wonderful for a short stroller walk, scootering, or testing out a balance bike. Hiking trails, however, are not stroller friendly. Also of note: fishing requires a WA State license.

To make a reservation, head over to Washington.goingtocamp.com or call 888-226-7688. Expect to pay $30/night for a standard site and $60-70/night for a cabin.

Hi there, I’m Alayna! I spent my childhood in rural Wisconsin but have moved around quite a bit since — Pennsylvania, Texas, Argentina, Washington, Oregon and now Virginia. Community and the outdoors are two things that, wherever I’ve lived, have always been important to me. I have a degree in Community, Environment, & Development from Penn State and previously worked in the non-profit sector. Currently, I’m lucky to be able to stay home with my two young daughters. Before kids, my husband and I enjoyed hiking, camping, backpacking, and travel. The latter two don’t happen quite as often anymore, but hiking and camping with the kids are two things we’re still really passionate about! I’m excited to get to share some of our favorite spots with you.
