Kinder Farm Park is a 288 acre park in rural Millersville that is operated by Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks. It is open year-round and is used to house farm animals for The Friends of Kinder Farm Park and the Kinder Farm Park 4H Livestock Club. Though it may sound like the park’s name comes from it’s obvious association with being a children’s attraction, it’s actually named after the Kinder family who once ran the farm that now exists within the park.
Visitors to the park can enjoy hiking, biking, bird watching, fishing and picnicking. Picnic tables and grills are located throughout the park and there are two pavilions to rent for large outdoor parties and cookouts. The Visitors Center Harvest Hall meeting room is also available to rent for events and meetings.
There’s a large playground and tot-lot area which was in the midst of a major upgrade during our visit so it should be fresh and improved for spring 2020 and will accommodate all age ranges.
Hikers can explore the 2.8 mile paved perimeter trail (perfect for bikes, scooters, and jogging strollers!) and several miles of natural trails. There’s even an eighteen-hole disc golf course on-site!
Exhibits at Kinder Farm Park include the Kinder Family Farmhouse Museum (See calendar for schedule), the historic Ice House and Outhouse buildings, the Tobacco Barn Museum (open daily, weather permitting, except Tuesdays), the Visitors Center Exhibit Hall (open during park office hours) and antique tractors on display in the barnyard. Our favorite attraction, however, was definitely the wide array of farm animals.
We were lucky enough to visit right after the birth of 3 goats and an alpaca, the baby farm animal equivalent of winning the lottery, but springtime is when they suggest visiting if you want to see a more consistent rotation of new additions. There’s also an annual Easter Egg Hunt, a fall harvest festival, a Christmas hayride with appearances by Mr. and Ms. Claus and a semi annual speakers series featuring lectures by experts in the fields of farming and local history.
Men’s and women’s restrooms on-site were large and clean. On-site parking was abundant and free with parking areas near the museum and further into the park near the pavillions.
Admission to the park is $6 per vehicle
