Landsford Canal has a unique trail that is great for the whole family.
Located just south of the border in South Carolina, Landsford Canal State Park is home to the well-preserved remains of a canal system that made the river commercially navigable during the 1800s. There are three trails to enjoy at the park. Starting from the picnic area you can access the Canal trail, Nature trail, and Eagle Point trail. The main attraction is the Canal Trail which has two access points, the main entrance area and the south parking lot. Stretched along the Catawba River this trail is easy enough for the whole family. This 1.5-mile one-way trail will take you along the historic canal where you can read about the history of the canal. You can see and walk through the old locks and original stonework. On the 0.6 miles, one-way Nature Trail follows along the Catawba River and ends at the overlook to the famous spider lilies. This state park is known for the largest blooms of spider lilies during May. On the trail about half of a mile, they have a viewing deck to see the spider lilies with places to sit and enjoy the views. The short 0.2 mile Eagle Point trail also starts from the picnic areas and ends at a bluff overlooking the Catawba River.
At the start of the trailhead and the parking lot is an older playground set that has slides, monkey bars, a bridge, and climbing. There are well-maintained and clean restrooms at the parking lot and playground area as well as some covered and not covered picnic tables.
We just had a great time on this trail and highly recommend it for your family's next outdoor adventure.
