Virginia Beach’s Marshview Park and Natural Area offer a great playground for bigger kids and kids who love to climb!

The park has three smaller play areas alongside a large field for running all your energy out for little ones.

Marshview Park is located not far from the oceanfront in Virginia Beach, in the Lake Rudee area. With lots to do, it’s a great full morning or afternoon adventure.

The main playground at Marshview Park has a ton of different climbing opportunities, with six different unique ways to get to the top of the larger structure. The playground is recommended for kids aged 5-12 but great for independent three and four-year-olds. The playground has two large slides and a few hands-on games, along with the different climbing features. In addition, there are three big kid swings, one accessible swing, and two baby swings to keep little siblings occupied.

Marshview Park is open dawn until dusk and has two free parking lots, one on the north side of the park, and one on the south side. The playground is at the south parking lot.

You can venture into 100 acres of wooded area from the playground on a network of trails. There are both paved and unpaved trails through the woods. The paved trails are great for walking, stroller jogging, scootering or biking (for littles, as the trails aren’t too long). The unpaved trails will take you on a fun adventure through the woods (or older kids can try out some mountain biking trails). We recommend enjoying these trails in the fall and winter as they can start getting a bit buggy once it warms up.

A short way down the trail from the playground, you will find three small play areas with some unique features including animal statues, tunnels and balance challenges. These smaller areas are great for toddlers and preschool-aged kids and spread out around a large field where you can run or kick a ball.

There are several shaded picnic table areas spread throughout the park and a large dog park and tennis courts (located by the north parking lot).

Right next to the north side of Marshview Park, there is another city park playground called Salt Marsh Point Park. So for a whole morning of adventure we like to play at Marshview Park playground, scooter through the park to Marsh Point Park playground, play there and scooter back!

I am a Massachusetts native who grew up in the suburbs of Boston and on Cape Cod. As a military spouse I have lived all over the country from Florida to California, and several places in between. My family has now settled in Virginia where I am a stay-at-home mom to two awesome girls. I love to explore and hike National and State Parks, and spend tons of time at the beach with my kids, splashing in the waves in the summer and searching for shells and seaglass in the winter. I also love running, yoga and cooking!
