Mary Ann Furnace Trail Has Lake Views, Wooden Boardwalks, Bridges, and Beautiful Natural Landscapes.
Bring the little ones, grandparents, and fur babies along for this 2.2-mile heavily trafficked trail within Codorus State Park. It is the perfect introduction to getting the kids out and about and learning about nature. It is a fairly flat trail with a total elevation gain of only 226 feet and is considered an easy hike, so should be fairly doable for the majority of kids.
As this is a loop, you can also keep track of your distance walked and head back after a quarter of the way in. If you want the lake views and aren't sure if your kids can do the full 2.2 miles, then be sure to head off to the left when you come to the split. The right will take you through the more wooded area, which is also a beautiful part of the hike and really lets you connect with nature. The right is also going to have more of the elevation changes and a few steeper areas. But again this trail is rated easy, so nothing too extreme!
There is also plenty of wildlife to be seen along the trail, so keep an eye out! It's always fun for the kids to spot an animal, they usually have loads of questions about it afterward!
Access to the trail is open year-round, but if you really want to see the area in all its glory, head over in either the spring or fall. Between the blooming flowers or the fall foliage, you will never want to leave!
As this does cut through a campground area, there are bathrooms along the way, but you will need to exit the path near the campground area to find them.
