Playground with medieval castles, drawbridges, and fields to run!
Socialize with adults while your kids get out extra energy! Located just between the city and county, Mary Munford playground is an imaginative child's dream with wooden medieval castles, a drawbridge, and suspension trampolines connecting new areas of exploration. When entering from the fields, there's a smaller plastic and rope park for younger children. It features a seesaw, four swings, a rope climbing dome, slides, and spin saucers. Then further back (or from the street/pavilion entrance) there's a wooden playground featuring swings, slider zip line, monkey bars, tire drop, firefighter pole, ropes course, and many climbing and enclosed areas in and outside of the castle. Mary Munford playground is a dream for kids from crawling ages into early middle school.
This playground and park are stroller and handicap accessible with materials including sidewalks, wood chips, and grass fields. The entire playground area is fenced in so you can take a deep breath and relax that your little one won't wander away. Although very popular, there is plenty of space for many people. Mornings are more quiet and there's typically a good crowd by the afternoon.
Don't limit your visit to the playground! The adjacent field is perfect for balls, frisbees, and cones for obstacle courses and races! Bring your picnic blanket to watch others or your own tennis gear for the tennis courts, walking shoes for the track, and your best climbing gear to climb the local trees. There's also a covered pavilion with two picnic benches in case you need to escape the weather!
Parking is free and ample on Commonwealth Avenue and Westmoreland street. Just follow parking sign rules and you will be good to go! Be sure to bring a portable potty for those potty trained as there are no restrooms.
