Located in Middletown, McMahon Park provides tons of activity spaces that are sure to please kids of all ages.

Though it’s not the largest playground, McMahon features all the necessities: swings — including two toddler swings, slides (two large, two small), and a couple of bridge tunnels to run through. The play structure sits atop wood chips and the area is surrounded by grass and trees. Several benches also line the playground so it’s easy to sit and watch the little ones play.

Sports lovers of all kinds will also be pleased as McMahon is home to four basketball courts — two 60 foot courts and two 90 foot courts; one of each is lighted for nighttime play. Two well-kept, non-lighted tennis courts are also available to visitors as are the lighted hockey field and baseball fields.

Restrooms are on-site, but they are locked sometimes so plan accordingly. Parking is easy as the lot is large (and free). It also leads to a trailhead for the Henry Hudson Trail. The paved, 10-foot wide route runs for 24 miles along the former railroad. Because it’s both relatively flat and smooth, it’s a popular trail for bikers of all ages. Located within a 230-acre park, the Henry Hudson Trail runs through marshy regions of the Bayshore and streams, as well as the woods and fields of Marlboro and Freehold. The space is well-kept and part of the National Rails-to-Trails Network.  The Henry Hudson Trail Activity Center is located on Hwy 36, Leonardo near the intersection of Hwy 36, Atlantic Highlands.
