Milo McIver State Park is a large park with trails, water access, and a campground.
Tucked away in Estacada, roughly 45 minutes outside of Portland, this park has everything you would need for a great exploration day, camping trip or just a place to take a quick hike.
Campground: Seasonal and opens Mid-March and goes through October 31st. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance on the Reserve America website. There are 44 RV sites with electricity and water. There are nine tent sites in a separate section from the RVs. If you want a little bit more privacy, there are three hiker/biker campsites that require a short walk. There are three group tent camping areas that have their own water, toilets and fire rings. The campground has hot showers, flush toilets, and an RV dump station.
Water: The park is along the Clackamas River which is popular for rafting, canoeing and kayaking in the summer months. Estacada Lake (also at the park) has a boat ramp, an ADA fishing dock, and is a great spot to take out paddle boards. There is a life jacket loaner station at the lake.
Fish Hatchery: There is a fish hatchery within the park that is a hit with the children. They offer self-guided tours of the hatchery that takes you through the life cycle of Chinook salmon and Steelhead. The far area of the hatchery has the largest, biggest adult fish.
Recreation: There is a 27-hole disc golf course and the park office has disc rentals if you do not have any to bring along with you. Nearly 14 miles of trails weave around this park and some are horse friendly. Our favorite trail is the 1-mile loop called the Bat Trail that will take you by the bat barn. Keep in mind this hiking trail has horse training obstacles to make sure to give the horses the right of way. A lot of the trails in this park can be connected with each other to make longer hikes but also kept small for those younger kids.
Dogs: Dogs are allowed on leash. There is an off-leash dog area near the entrance of the park.
There are picnic tables throughout the park which make for great picnicking but there are also reservable covered picnic areas that have electricity and water in the summer months. Good cell reception throughout the park. During the off-season, the park is very empty, which makes for a great spot to bring the bikes to.
