The Nassau County Firefighter Museum and Education Center is the perfect spot to take any little firefighter or truck lover!
The museum showcases an expansive collection of firefighter memorabilia, equipment, trucks, and more. The museum is dedicated to the preservation and education of the local volunteer fire services in Nassau County. This is a great spot to learn about fire safety and the history of the program and firemen in general. Established in 2006 as a part of Museum Row, the Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center is next to the Cradle of Aviation Museum, the IMAX Theater, Nunley's Carousel, and the Long Island Children's Museum. There are restrooms, a cafe, and a museum store all located inside this museum.
Tickets are $5.00 per person and advanced tickets or reservations aren't necessary. Tickets are sold until 4:15 pm and the museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. This museum is very popular for school trips, field trips, birthday parties, and more. If you want to have your child's birthday party at the firefighter museum, you can call visitor services for pricing and reservations. The party will include a tour of the museum, a papercraft activity, pizza, soft drinks, and a party host for up to 25 people.
The Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center started years before it was opened by Frank Pendl, a Nassau County fire service academy instructor, who began collecting fire service memorabilia to preserve the history and tradition of the fire service in the county. Andy Stiendmuller, who was in charge of public education at the time, wanted to open a center where the public and school kids can learn about fire safety any time of the year. These two teamed up with a group of firefighters who were able to raise money and bring the museum to fruition.
