The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles is an educational experience every family would enjoy, especially those with dinosaur enthusiasts.
Did you know Los Angeles has the most significant natural and historical museum in the western United States? It's located within Exposition Park, and here you can explore the age of dinosaurs, walk through urban nature gardens, and do so much more. Their artifact collection holds nearly 35 million specimens and covers 4.5 billion years of history within six acres.
Our favorite part was, without a doubt, Dinosaur Hall. They don't just have one life-size mounted dinosaur skeleton. They have over 20!!!! Some of which you can see from an aerial view on the second floor. It truly is one of the most spectacular dinosaurs exhibits we have seen yet. If you have a dinosaur lover, this exhibit is worth every penny. We also enjoyed the African and North American Diorama Halls. The scenes are created with incredible attention to detail. The scenes fooled our 3.5-year-old into thinking they were real and about to charge at us. We highly recommend this museum to all families. We got through the museum within two hours, and we had to drag our boys out.
Want to make a full day of it? The California Science Center & Exposition Park are also within walking distance from this museum. So bring a picnic and spend the whole day exploring the history and science behind the city of Los Angeles.
Here's a tip to make extra savings on this trip - save on parking and avoid traffic. Take the Metro. We did this the first time we came with our son at five months old. We took the Expo Line from Culver City to the Natural History Museum by getting off at the Expo/Vermont station. It was so simple and a fun experience for us all to ride the metro above ground through Los Angeles. We will do this route again.
