Old McDonald's Farm has activities that make for an entire day of fun for the whole family.

Located in Sackets Harbor, an hour north of Syracuse, Old McDonald's Farm has been around since 1986. It was then that the "Farmer's Wife", Nancy Robbins, came up with the idea of creating a space for the public to experience first-hand the joy of farming, animals, and country life. Since this idea's inception, the farm has been the stage for educational, agricultural, and hands-on experience for kids of all ages. There are activities for everyone to experience around the farm from feeding the cows, to petting and feeding the goats, to saying hello to the camel. You can walk into the barn to see the horses or take a tour of modern-day dairy farming practices. Included in your admission you get to visit with all the farm animals, go on the hay ride and feed the cows, and visit reindeer in the Christmas village. To round out the fun, you can find a miniature golf course and farm toys to play on. The farm sets up a corn maze and pumpkin patch in the fall, and a sunflower field blooms in the summer. Other add-on activities include a 30-minute tour of the dairy farm, bounce houses, and a large tube slide.

The Lazy Cow Cafe serves up lunch or a snack. They offer items like popcorn, chips, donuts, hamburgers, pizza, hotdogs, and a kids meal with peanut butter and jelly, or grilled cheese. They also have their own homemade ice cream! Before you leave the farm, stock up on fresh milk from the farm, cream, cheese, and other goodies.

We did most of the activities the farm had to offer. Our favorite was the hay ride!  We also got to feed the pigs and and male Holstein cows and pet all the farm animals. We had a blast and learned a lot from going on the dairy farm tour. They have over 1,000 Holstein dairy cows that they milk three times a day. You will hop on a wagon and head across the street to see the process up close. You get to see the nursery and elementary stalls where the babies live and grow up. Then you head across the street to view the milking process. You will see first-hand the cows how the cows are milked, and where they rest and eat before the next milking. The kids also received a coloring book. I recommend paying for the tour. We also rode the big tube slide. You grab a tube and head up the stairs; at the top, an attendant will get you set up to head down the slide. You can race with a friend to see who goes down the slide the fastest.
