When arriving at Promontory Point, prepare to be awestruck by the sight of Lake Michigan.
Just on the lakefront side of Lake Shore Drive, you can step across the bike path from the underpass and behold a sight to see. It feels like you have found a secret spot to enjoy the beauty of nature against the city life. This is a great place for photos with its panoramic views!
The point itself has a long winding trail for you to walk along. The peninsula is surrounded by water on three sides, so make sure to wear some shoes that you don't mind getting wet because the waves crash right up against the limestone rocks. The Chicago skyline is also a wonderful sight to behold from this spot!
A fun feature of the promontory point is the fire pits throughout the park. It may be a little tricky to snag one in the summer, but if you do, be prepared for smores and campfire fun!
The park is open from 6 AM to 11 PM every day, and it costs $7 to park in the lot. There are also plenty of street parking spots available, and biking is another great way to get there! If driving, remember it is about a 5-10 min walk into the park from the parking. So, take what you need because chances are you are not going to walk back to the car if you forget something!
Close by: Just North of Promontory Point, west of Lake Shore Drive, is Burnham Playground. It is a great spot for the kids to get the wiggles out before or after a visit to the point.
