Red Clay Creek Trail is a great family-friendly trail to enjoy the beautiful scenery throughout Kennett Square.

This 2.6 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail runs through Anson B. Nixon Park and is primarily used for walking, running, and road biking.  The trail goes through the park so there are many things to stop and enjoy including three playgrounds, ponds for fishing, an 18 hole disc golf course, basketball and tennis courts as well as many picnic tables and pavilions with grills for barbecuing.   It's a great family spot because there really is something for everyone.  There are many benches along the mostly shaded trail which makes it very relaxing to enjoy the stunning scenery of the lake.   My kids especially loved the wooden bridges that cross over the small creek and had so much fun imagining that grumpy old trolls lived under them!

If you are very into hiking this is considered an easy walking trail and isn't challenging at all, but it is a fun adventure for little explorers in a scenic atmosphere.  The one downfall is that the trail isn't very clearly marked and we did do quite a bit of backtracking.  For us, that didn't matter and it became fun for the kids to try to navigate which way we should go.   It would be helpful to check out the map though to avoid frustration.  A map of the trails can be found in the kiosks located in the parking lot or by clicking here.   https://www.ansonbnixonpark.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/AnsonBNixonParkMap_03-19.pd

There are multiple free parking lots throughout the park in which you can access the trail and it's easy to get to from any of them.

The Red Clay Creek Trail is part of a larger trail system that is still being developed called The Kennett Greenway.  When finished it will be a 14-mile multi-purpose trail loop that connects the Kennett community to nature and each other.  We look forward to being able to explore and connect to all the great trails in the area.

Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on a leash. There is also a dog park where they can have some unleashed fun too.

After our family walk on the trail we worked up quite an appetite and it was convenient that there are so many great options just down the road in historic downtown Kennet.   We just wanted a quick grab-and-go snack and found options for everyone to enjoy at Talula's Table.   I especially enjoyed a much-needed cup of coffee and some amazing baked goods.
