In the heart of East Hill, Rev. H.K. Matthews Park playground is nice for younger kids.

This park is typically quiet and open for kids to play freely. There are two play structures for kids to play, climb, and slide. One is a bit newer, but the pirate ship equipment shows some wear and tear in various spots due to rain and weather. A few feet away are two swings for younger toddlers and three swings for older kids. Surrounding the park are paved sidewalks to take your stroller or a wheelchair. These are great for a quick walk to move around and get some exercise. All playground equipment has mulch flooring to protect kids from fall injuries.

There is plenty of space for outdoor games or soccer if you want to bring equipment to play under the trees. The pavilion is a first-come, first-serve area, so if you're going to use the covered picnic tables, those are also available. Benches are included around the park for provided seating. There are no restrooms or water fountains on-site, so plan accordingly. The basketball court is usually busy with older children or teens playing ball. The court seems very popular among neighborhood locals.

Dogs are welcome, but there is no separate dog park.

When done playing, walk across the street and eat at Cactus Flower Cafe for some delicious California Mexican food. One of my favorite places! Try this place out - you'll be glad you did! Next door includes a coffee shop if you need a quick pick-up-and-go beverage or sweet!

Michelle is a licensed private pilot who enjoys four-wheeler riding, boating, hiking, extreme couponing, cooking, and dining at ethnic restaurants. She has a master's from the University of West Florida and works as an Instructional Designer. Her volunteerism includes a program lead for a virtual middle school book club through her employer’s school partnership program. She currently lives on 23 acres with her husband and 6-year-old son who jointly care for their (very large) vegetable and herb gardens. Her family donates any over-abundance of produce to a local church who prepares meals for the homeless. Michelle’s family also includes three adult children (one set of twins) and three grandchildren. She can be found most weekends working on their property or out on a family adventure with one or more kids in tow!
