Pack a picnic, play at the playground, and escape into nature on hiking paths along the James River.
Robious Landing Park is a peaceful getaway in the middle of nature along the James River. It's tucked away behind a high school, and located in a safe neighborhood. Included in the 100 acres are 3.4 miles of trails, an ample playground, picnic shelters, sand volleyball, three covered pavilions, a boat slide, restrooms, and free parking. You will see people walking on the trails and sitting by the river. Depending on the time of year, crew teams, canoers, fishermen, and kayakers may be on the water. You can bring your own boat and enjoy this county park for free using the boat slide access into the water!
While there's always adventure in store at Robious Landing, it's safe to visit just for the playground. Next to a covered pavilion and many picnic benches, you can enjoy two adjacent playgrounds. The playgrounds have a set of infant swings, as well as older kid swings. Be careful, they can get slippery, and I've seen big kids fall off the back of the swings. The playgrounds are equipped with slides, saucers, and climbing walls to help with physical coordination, strength and flexibility. And if that isn't enough to entertain your little one, they can always explore the woods, just steps away.
Park for free in one of the three parking lots. Bathrooms can be found in the parking lot near the Boat Dock, with water views. Sidewalks provide good stroller access, except on walking trails that can get muddy. Playgrounds primarily have wood mulch chips as well as soft turf under the slippery swings.
