Family fun awaits all year long at Rockland State Park.

Located in Valley Cottage, Rockland Lake State park has something for everyone. This 1100-acre state park is located in the hamlets of Congers and Valley Cottage on the ridge of Hook Mountain. Included in the park is Rockland Lake for which the park was named. With a huge swimming pool, playground, paved walking path, trails, launching dock, two 18-hole golf courses, picnic areas, and tennis, there is plenty to do here. The park offers a 25,000 square foot water complex with zero entry, diving boards, spray ground, and two large water slides. Spray ground has animal-shaped sprayers, dump buckets, and other sprayers. In the large pool, the two huge water slides is fun for older kids and adults too. The pool area has no shade around the pool. There are some mature trees just a small walk away from the pool. Bring a picnic blanket or some chairs to sit on when you are taking a break from the water.

Rockland Lake State Park has a 3.2 mile paved walking path around the lake. This is stroller friendly as well as any non-motorized bikes, roller blades, and scooters. There is a workout station and restroom along the path. The large playground area has two sections. The first section has swings for both big and small kids, a large play structure with multiple climbing ways, slides, and steps. The second area has a smaller play structure for preschool-aged kids. This has some pretend play, a small slide, and different ways to climb. There is also a large climbing pyramid. There is a paved walkway in and around the playground area.

Several hiking trails can be accessed throughout the park. The Nyack-Havestraw Trail long the river is a 3.3 moderate, out and back trail with very little elevation. A little harder and the longer trail is the Hook Mountain and Nyack Beach trail loop. This 5.8-mile trail follows the teal/green blazes with highlights of the Hudson River, palisades cliffs, stone ruins, the historic Knickerbocker Ice House, and several large oak groves. On this trail, there are restrooms and parking at the trailhead. During the winter there is snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and ice fishing.
Rockland Lake State Park is a great day trip to escape the city for the day. Check it out and get your adventure started today.
