Rooster Rock State Park has three miles of beach along the Columbia River.

We absolutely love this park for splashing in the river when the weather warms up. The water is so shallow that it remains warm, is calm and even toddlers can wade in it.

There are two sections of beach at this park, one is a clothing option section and one clothing required. If you’re up for the clothing optional beach, head east past the bathrooms at the far east end of the park. There will be a sign with an arrow heading down the hill. You can follow any of the sandy trails from that point and they’ll all lead you to the water. Foot access to the clothing optional beach may be limited depending on rainfall. Usually by the middle of summer the trail access is back to normal.

The main section of the beach has stairs that lead down to the water so it is not stroller-friendly unless you make a larger loop around the stairs. Lately we have been choosing this section because it’s the easiest and quickest beach to get to and most people who come to the park head to the other end of the beach.

Reservable covered picnic shelters make for great spots for baby showers, birthday parties or get-togethers. There are A LOT of open picnic tables throughout the park you can use at no charge. In addition, there is one small playground as well as a lot of open green space for running or sports.

Two disc golf courses as well as a lagoon good for paddleboarding are located on the far west end of the park.

Dogs are allowed at this park on leash with the exception of an off-leash area of the park. There are multiple sets of bathrooms with flush toilets, drinking fountains and a sand rinsing station which is nice to rinse off before getting back into the car.

Park is open every day year round from 7 am - 6 pm.

One of our favorite things to do is to find green spaces on the map and see what hidden gems we can discover! I hope to share some of these hidden gems with you.
