Rotary Park has an all-abilities playground situated on the Farmington Canal Heritage Rail Trail.
A local favorite - an even play surface and ramps make it accessible for all kiddos. There are two separate play structures for ages 2-5 and another for ages 5+. In addition, there is a climbable fire truck with a slide and see-saw that my little ones love. Finally, there is a picnic table under a pavilion between both play structures - a perfect vantage point over the entire playground for caregivers. During summer weekends, it can get busy, but everybody usually has plenty of space.
There is an adjacent dog park for your four-legged family members.
Make a (half) day of it.
The playground is right on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail - an 80-mile rail trail that stretches from New Haven, CT, to Massachusetts. Bring bikes, scooters, skates, helmets to make this a half-day outing, or more, if your kids are up for it. Head south on the rail trail about a hundred yards, and you will come across a short boardwalk that is a good place for frog-spotting.
A bit further south on the rail trail is great to look for wild grapes in late summer. Look up when you start seeing squashed grapes on the ground! Keep heading south, and you will come across the Drake Flower Bridge - a pedestrian-only bridge that has beautiful floral arrangements maintained by volunteers year-round. Older kids might enjoy taking the rail trail to the next town over.
