Roy Guerrero Park and Playground in Austin, TX really has playgrounds, fields, hiking trails, and more!
What can’t you do here? Located on Austin's East Side, Roy Guerrero Park boasts a number of playgrounds – equipped with bright, well-kept climbing structures, slides, swings and a few shade providers – and sports fields where you can frequently find ball games on the weekend. But the fun doesn't end there. This 363-acre park runs along the Colorado River and happens to be one of Austin's largest greenspaces. Bring your frisbee for a game of disc golf or take off and explore one of the many trails running through the grounds. Some are perfect for stroller running, the terrain on others is better for hiking with kiddos. But be aware, due to its size, navigating the park's many sides and entrances can be tricky. The majority of sports fields are located near the Pleasant Valley Rd. entrance, while the play structures can be found near the Grove entrance. Pack a picnic, because we doubt you or the kids will want to leave!
Pro Tip: Austin's "Secret Beach" is located within the park's folds. Swimming isn't recommended, but that doesn't mean you wont see people and pups wading in the water when there's enough to enjoy. (Texas summers are notoriously dry and often cause waterways to shrink or dry up all together.) To access, keep right on the trail located next to Montopolis Youth Sports Complex, walk down a steep hill, and ta-da! You'll find what feels like a sand-covered beach spot.
