Choo Choo. Calling all train conductors for this fun playground at Salem Pond Park.

Located north of downtown Apex, Salem Pond Park has a fun-themed playground, multi-purpose field, two ponds, and a paved walking path. The playground has a train theme with two play structures, a climbing structure, swings, and a spinning merry-go-round. The larger play structure is geared towards older kids has several large slides, steps, multiple ways to climb, tunnel, pretend play, and shaded covering. The smaller play structure is geared toward preschoolers has a small slide, steps, and pretend play. There is a picnic table and several benches around the playground to sit and relax while the kids play. There is no shade around the playground so go early or later during the warmer months to beat the heat. The playground area is surfaced with poured-in rubber so it doesn't stay wet when it rains.

The paved walking path starts at the parking lot and goes around the ponds and the multi-purpose field. This circuit is around half of a mile and great for the stroller, scootering, or new bikers.  The walking path is only partially shaded so bring extra water or walk either early or later during the day. There are several benches along the path to take a break and enjoy the view of the ponds.

This is a great park to play at when you need to get out of the house and play. The park is near the Wake Zone Coffee House. Pick up a good coffee before heading to the playground.
