Something different, but exciting, for every member of the family!

If you have a fan of planes or air travel in the family, this is sure to become a new, favorite spot! Whether you need a quick, convenient activity or need to fill an entire afternoon, the Santa Monica Airport Observation Decks are sure to deliver the fun factor.

The Runway View Deck and Public Sky-deck provide the ideal place to watch and be a part of all the flight action. In order to access the observation decks, you will need to go up a set of stairs (or use the elevator if you have a stroller) to the second level (Runway View Deck) or the third level (Public Sky-deck). Restrooms are conveniently located on the second level inside the pilot lounge area right next to the observation area. The Runway View Deck has two sets of bleachers and several benches to sit on while watching the planes take off and land. Kids (and adults!) are sure to love being up close to the runway with an unobstructed view of all the aviation activity! You can even hear the air traffic control tower communicating with pilots over an outdoor speaker. There is limited shade, so be sure to bring a hat and sunscreen!

In addition to the Runway View Deck on the second level, there is a picnic area at the top of the stairs. You will find several picnic tables and benches with collapsed umbrellas so you can decide how much sun or shade you prefer. This is a nice, quiet spot to take a snack break from all the action on the observation deck.

The Public Sky-deck is standing only but provides a magnificent birds-eye-view of the airport. Kids will have a blast looking down at all of the airplanes and hangers where different planes are being worked on. While there are planes taking off and landing seven days a week, the middle of the week tends to be a bit slower for flight activity. If you are looking for lots of flight action, the end of the week and weekends tend to be best!

After everyone has had their aviation fill, take a 2-minute walk over to Airport Park for some more outdoor time. If you are looking for an indoor activity, take a one minute drive around the corner to the Museum of Flying!
