Schoch Dairy and Creamery is a local staple for fresh milk.
There are three generations of Schoch's at the farm today. The great-grandparent of the current owner, Casey, grew up on the farm when it was first created as a dairy farm.
Even though this farm isn’t necessarily close to where we live, we always make sure we stop by on our way out to the coast since it’s a quick detour off of Highway 26 in Hillsboro.
The farm almost always has calves that are available to view (and pet). You can walk down a couple of aisles of their dairy cows and watch them eat, which is always fun for the kids to see. Cows at Schoch are all free-range animals, and they have access to pasture daily. Sometimes you’ll see some outside in their fields if they aren’t inside eating. It is a self-guided tour. Usually, you will not see staff as they are busy working. However, if you contact them ahead of time, I’m sure they’d be happy to set up more of a formal walk-through.
Schoch Dairy has award-winning whole milk, straight from their cows. They bottle the milk in reusable, half-gallon bottles. Their milk is pasteurized but not homogenized. This means there may be some cream that rises to the top. Just shake the bottle before pouring.
Our kids' favorite is their “schocolate milk.” It tastes like bottled chocolate ice cream in liquid form. Of course, they always have whole milk and chocolate milk (unless they sell out) and seasonal strawberry milk and eggnog around the holidays.
Make sure to bring carrots with you so the kids can feed their horse that sometimes will venture close to the fence.
There are no restrooms at the farm. Wear boots since this is a working farm and can get muddy. Their social media is up to date and will post when they sell out of milk as soon as possible.
