Fun Place to Bust out the Bike, Stroller or Running Shoes!
Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River Trail is a bustling and beautiful recreational trail that sees many families walking, jogging, and biking. We encourage you to get outdoors with your kids young and old to experience the fun too!
Start your run from Lloyd Hall, behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art: 1 Boathouse Row, Philadelphia, PA 19130. If getting dropped off, the taxi/Uber/Lyft can drop you at Lloyd Hall. If traveling by car, there is limited free parking at Waterworks or street parking on Sedgley Drive; paid parking can be found at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Begin running west past boathouse row and follow the trail until you reach an open area with three sculptures called the Playing Angels by Carl Milles (1.2 miles). Ask your child to point them out and “help” you figure out when you should turn around on your run. Then turn around at this point to complete your two-and-a-half mile loop.
We recommend making the day educational and checking out this free, self-guided audio tour for the numerous outdoor sculptures along Kelly Drive from the Association for Public Art here.
There are free public restrooms at Lloyd Hall for before/after your run. There are plenty of benches and shady spots to stop for a snack/water break. Plus, you can choose to run on asphalt or gravel in certain portions of the run.
For a longer run, you and your family can go all the way to Strawberry Mansion Bridge then loopback (6 miles round-trip).
