As Richmond city spreads to the west, the streets radiate like sunbeams forming the part of the city known as the Fan District.
A birdseye view of this neighborhood makes the name an obvious choice, but it also reveals small triangular parks, hidden public gardens, and slivers of peaceful green lawns with benches placed carefully in the shade of giant oaks. It is the perfect place to enjoy a walk through the park or to enjoy your lunch break oudoors.
Tucked between Strawberry Street and N. Stafford Avenue, just north of Stuart Avenue, is Scuffletown Park, a peaceful spot for families to catch their breath in the heart of the city and let nature lower everyone’s blood pressure. The park has two long gated green lawns on either side of a hardscaped area which is bookended by benches and seating perfect for taking a snack break. The surrounding low barrier makes this spot perfect for a new skater or bike rider to test their skills in the great outdoors without contending with traffic (bike, foot, or street traffic) to build up their confidence.
Scuffletown Park is also perfectly located next to the most delicious block of Strawberry Street. The 400 block of Strawberry Street is where you can find the Strawberry Street Market, Idle Hands Bread Company, Scoop, and arguably the best fresh Italian takeout from 8 ½ -- all of which are local Richmond businesses and reinforce Richmond’s reputation for amazing local eateries at any price range.
Pop into Strawberry Street Market for snacks and drinks on your way into the park and Scoop on your way out for an icy cool treat. All their amazing flavors (including Croissants & Jam, Brown Sugar Cookie Dough, S’Mores, and the popular Goat Cheese & Fig) are made in small batches in that very storefront. Scoop has something for everyone, including multiple options for those Vegan and Gluten-Free dessert fans.
