Seneca Regional Park is a true outdoor experience in Great Falls.
There are so many incredible hikes and parks to explore in Virginia. On Sunday we checked out Seneca Park in Great Falls and fell in love. This park is one of a kind, from the wide trails, man-made “stick wall,” towering trees and off-shoot trails, we spent hours here and can’t wait to go back!
The winding trails lead down to the river where you will get to see a bit of history, remnants from George Washington’s Potowmack Canal. While along the river, you can skip rocks, relax on a bench, grab a little snack and you might even see a kayaker your two trying to navigate the small rapids.
We had a blast exploring the off shoot trails as well and even balancing and walking across fallen trees above a small stream.
The man-made “stick wall” is pretty cool. They say that anytime you hike the trail to find a fallen branch to contribute to the wall. We each found a few branches so we could be a part of adding to it. Our eleven year old nephew was determined to make a huge impact and carried two massive branches for over a mile to add it to the wall. It was so fun to see the kids determination in finding just the right stick to add!
Insider Tip: There is a sneaky little decline as you head down to the river. Make sure to bring a snack and water to refuel and have energy for the slight incline on the way back up.
After the hike check out Brix (their pizza is great) or Our Mama Eugenia.
