With outdoor and indoor activities happening all year long, this park has it all in Monroe, New York.
Nestled in the Hudson Valley, Smith's Clove Park has playgrounds, a skate park, sports fields, hiking trails, a fitness course, tennis and racquetball courts, volleyball courts, a dog park, ice skating, picnic shelters, public restrooms, and a large recreation building. The playground features a pretend boat to play on, a large structure for climbing, and slides. The small skate park features a couple of ramps and a rail. Well-maintained sports fields like baseball, softball, and football are illuminated as well as several tennis, basketball, and handball courts. These fields are used by the public and local sports leagues. Smith's Clove Park has four trails used for both hiking and biking. The trails are around 2 miles long. During the winter, there is a pond to skate and a large hill to go sledding on.
The Smith's Clove Park provides several programs throughout the year. The most popular program the park offers is the summer youth activity camp (YAC). This six-day camp starts up right after July 4th and runs through the second week of August. The program offers sports activities, arts and crafts, intramural events, special-themed days, and field trips. During the school year, Smith's Clove Park does after-school programs, daytime preschool, and weekend classes. They also host movies in the summer, dance mixers for kids nine to twelve, babysitting classes, and holiday fun like an Easter egg hunt, Turkey Trot, and tree lighting. You can always find the latest information on the events board outside the park and news channel 22. Check out their website for all the information about the different programs they offer.
The dog park is fully fenced and has separate areas for both large and small dogs. Do note that the dog park is for residents of the town of Monroe. Proof of residency will need to be provided if asked.
Smith's Clover Park was donated in 1965 by Roscoe W. Smith, founder of Orange and Rockland Utilities Company with the stipulation that it solely be used as a park. The city does a great job keeping the calendar filled with events for kids and the whole family to enjoy.
