Southampton Golf Range sets up an ice rink in the winter months so families can be entertained during all seasons.
Southampton Ice Rink is located just off Montauk Highway and easy to find. Ice skates are available for rent from toddler to adult sizes. Skates are offered in two styles, figure skating as well as the sport style skate, and plenty are available in both. However, there are low quantities in the toddler sizes. A few helmets are available but if you have a well fitting helmet for your young ones, definetly bring it. The skates are all well taken care of, the blades are kept sharp, and the skates are kept clean. The rental tent is located just inside the entrance.
Skating time slots are set up to prevent overcrowding and can be found on the Southampton Ice Rink website. Reservations can also be made via the website, and this is recommended during most times but necesarry for weekends and holidays. Remember to bring cash, it is a cash only venue. The rink is also used for local sports practices and lessons, so checking time slots is important. The rink has a designated Teen Night on Fridays, making for a fun night out for the older kids. If you are interested in lessons you can check the website for more information - both private and group lessons are available.
For those skaters less stable on their feet, they have a good supply of the skating supports at no cost. Pick it up as you need or ditch it when you are feeling more confident. Also outside of the rink there are benches for bystanders, picnic benches/tables, or igloos for rent, but they are pricy and you must make a reservation. The igloos are private and have games and music inside. After working up an appetite find a quick bite or a meal at the Local Burger Co. attached to the rink, where there are delicious burgers at a reasonable price. That said, feel free to bring your own snacks, there are plenty of places to sit and have a quick bite and outside food is welcome.
Important things to note: there are no lockers or places to safely store your valuables. I did not feel nervous about leaving my things (coats, shoes, diaper bag) on the bench, however, since it's generally wiser to keep cash and cards on you, I leave my bag at home or locked in the car and just bring what I need. Although the ice rink is cash only there is an ATM in Local Burger and Local Burger does accept credit cards. Also it is important to note, bathrooms are small and geared toward those already potty trained.
