Stella Olsen Memorial Park is a family-friendly park located near Old Town Sherwood.
Stella Olsen has a big playground with swings (baby, big kid, and tire), slides, musical sounds, and climbing structures. The playground is suitable for ages 2-12. There are smaller slides on the right side for younger kids but it's all attached to the whole play structure. The play structure is big enough to be right by your child, which was convenient because I have a toddler. The monkey bars connect to a rope you can also climb on. This was a hit with the older kids.
The play structure has umbrellas on top but doesn't keep the rain out. It can be very slippery when wet. We like to bring a towel to dry off the slides. It was nice to see we were not the only family with a towel. During the winter, the family bathroom is open and the rest are closed. The parking lot is on the other side of the park so we parked on the street to be closer to the playground. There's an amphitheater down the path by the creek and a covered shelter. You can find ducks and nutria at times in the creek. It has a big grassy area where they have many shows during the summer.
I liked that this park not only had trash cans but recycling cans as well. The trail is great for bike riding, baby strollers, or walking the dog. The trails are made up of dirt, asphalt, wooden boardwalk, or gravel. There are many benches around the trail to sit and have a snack. Since it's close to the old town there are many places to stop for food. Symposium Coffee, Fat Milo's Family Kitchen, and The Hungry Hero Dessert Co are some of our favorites when we are in Sherwood.
