Stumpy Creek is a great place to spend the morning, afternoon, or just drop in for quick play to burn some energy.
Located in Mooresville near an inlet of Lake Norman, Stumpy Creek Park has a playground, disc golf course, ball fields, soccer fields, walking track, picnic shelters, and restrooms. The playground area is small but has one play structure, a climbing cone, and a swing set. The play structure has two slides, a tunnel, steps, climbing, interactive and pretend play, and seesaw. The play structure is covered by a large awning which is great for hot summer days. There is also a large climbing cone and a swing set that has both traditional swing and baby swings. Near the playground is several large hills which we thought was fun to run down and if there was snow to sled down. Next to the playground is a picnic shelter with two tables underneath. There looks to be future plans of a newer playground in the works.
The disc golf course is fun yet challenging. There are 19 holes that take you in and out of the woods with various terrain. The each hole has a short course for a beginner and a longer challenging course for advanced players. Locals love playing on this course.
The third of a mile paved walking track goes around the soccer fields. This is great for parents with kids who are playing sports to get some exercise while their kid is in practice or just playing on the fields. The path is also great for biking, scootering, and pushing a stroller around. This is all open field so it can get hot during the warmer months.
There is a free orienteering course you can pick up at the kiosk. This was created by a local Boy Scout for an Eagle project. The orienteering course was designed for three different skill levels; basic, intermediate, and advanced. You can print your own at home or pick up one at the park kiosk. To get started all you need is a compass, pencil, and the orienteering instructions. You can find all the instructions for the course on the website.
The ball fields and soccer fields are mostly used by leagues and generally has games on the weekends. Otherwise if the fields are not in use you can play on them.
Overall great park to play around out between games, during the week, or if you love disc golf. Check it out for your next family outing.
