Sunnyhill Park is a great little neighborhood park with pretty cool playground equipment that you don't see at many parks.
The park's name came from a schoolhouse that used to be on this piece of land in the early 1900s. If you visit on a bright and sunny day as we did, you will see how the name is fitting. As soon as we pulled up, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of amenities this park has to offer. A cute little open-air structure with a picnic table, basketball court, trails, a bench, and of course, the playground. The only thing it is missing is a bathroom or porta-potty. Like all other parks in the area, this one connects to the trails and all the other parks in Cottage Grove. So you can easily hop on any one of them and go for a nice walk or jog and connect to another playground to enjoy.
The playground here is fantastic. It was geared towards all ages, but I think it was perfect for my five and seven-year-old. The swings included two baby and two bigger kid swings. A climber shaped like a small rock and had rock climber-type things going up both sides. A larger spinner that multiple kids could fit in was something that I don't see at parks too often. A little picnic table, restaurant-type play area for littles. The structure itself was my kids' favorite because it included various activities. The big structure consists of multiple rope climbing areas, a big slide, another climbing area, and monkey bars. This area was mainly geared towards kids maybe five and up. But still plenty of fun.
After spending some time here, stop by Junction 70 just down the road and grab some delicious take-out appetizers for lunch or supper!
