The Tennessee Agricultural Museum is at Ellington Agricultural Center in South Nashville.

We have visited Ellington Agricultural Center many times to see the police horses and explore the many trails, but the museum that is also on the property is often overlooked. The museum itself isn’t huge but you can go inside and explore old wagons, tractors and other interesting pieces from the pioneering farm days. The museum is two levels and is never crowded. We've been a few times and have been the only people there each time.

The content of the museum is geared more towards children 8 and up but younger children will enjoy looking at the tractors and old wagons. There is also a small area with children's toys and books that toddlers would enjoy. The staff at the front of the museum are very welcoming and will point out any features that they think might be interesting to you. Outside, there are several cabins that are a part of the museum that you can explore as well. Visit their website to view their calendar of events, including First Fridays each month!

The museum will not take you long to walk through so you can also stop and look at the Metro Police Horses just across the parking lot during your visit as well. The police horses are usually grazing in the field during the day until around 3 P.M. They are very friendly and will typically come to the fence. After 3 P.M. you can visit them in the stables. You might spot a rooster or a cat along the way too. Just remember to not feed the horses! You can also find a bathroom here right beside the stables.

If you have more time, there are paved trails and mulch trails here to explore. If you are going to stroll, you will get a full workout. There are a lot of hills! I  have seen people here with strollers but I personally think it’s too much of a hassle due to the hills and uneven land in some parts of the center. If you have a small baby I would just wear them. There is also creek access. At the bottom of the hill where the horses graze, you will see an opening across the street. Follow that path and creek access is on the right.

This area is close to both Nippers Corner and Crieve Hall in South Nashville. Below are some nearby places you might want to stop by if you have time!

-Crieve Hall Bagel Company

-Smoothie King

-Las Palmas (outdoor patio)

-Sam's Place (bar & grill)

-Whitfield Park (playground with swings)

Note: This is also a beautiful place to take family photos. During the fall you will see many families taking pictures here on the weekends!
