Once a hidden gem, the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore became a hotspot for travelers from around the world after “Good Morning America” in 2011 named it the “Most Beautiful Place in America.”

And I have to agree: the beauty of Sleeping Bear Dunes is unparalleled. There is much to see and do in the area surrounding the national lakeshore, and it’s a wonderful trip to take with children. From splashing in sand-bottomed lakes and hiking huge scalable dunes, to enjoying a scenic drive and exploring cute beach towns the entire family won’t soon forget this vacation.

The Homestead is an amazing beachfront resort with a mile-long beach, spa and salon, tennis courts, pools, restaurants, hiking and cross-country ski trails, and more. You can rent anything from hotel rooms and suites to private condos and entire homes. It’s a great location and the nearby town of Glen Arbor has cute shops and restaurants. It's also a fantastic home base for exploring the beautiful area of northern Michigan adhere it's located.

You have plenty of activity options here and can rent bikes for the trails, go on trail runs, hike in the woods, golf, play tennis, go fishing, play lawn games, play and swim at the beach and more! The Homestead is popular for summer vacations but it's truly a wonderful place year-round. Visit in October to take in the brilliant fall colors from the trails around the resort. From December through March, the resort offers downhill and cross-country skiing. It's a fun, cozy place for winter break, and offers some of the best downhill skiing in the Midwest.

There are quite a few lodging options and vacation packages available that include hotel rooms, suites, condos, and homes for rent. The dining options at The Homestead that are all different levels of casual and food options. Nonna's Cavanaugh's, Cafe Manitou, and Whiskers are all available as restaurants to choose from. There are great outdoor patios at these places that are perfect for enjoying the lake views or the sunset. Reservations are required at most places, so ask the concierge to make a call for you or you can do it yourself!

She lives by the motto "There's no such thing as bad weather" and you'll find her outside rain or shine. These days, Lizzy and the boys like to adventure around Nashville, looking for toddler-friendly hikes, parks and swimming holes.
