Montshire Museum of Science is a great place to spend a day in any weather, any time of year!

The Montshire Museum is a gem of the Norwich, VT community. The grounds offer hiking trails, a planet walk, nature trails, outdoor exhibits, interactive water features, and nature playscapes. There are shaded tables outside to enjoy your picnic lunch (no food is sold onsite).

Head inside for a variety of science-themed exhibits spread out on 2 floors as well as an observation tower overlooking the river, woods, and meadows surrounding the property. Permanent exhibits include aquariums with local fauna, a bubble discovery zone, the power of air, an under 5 area, and more. Check the website for temporary exhibits.

Daily curator-led activities include topics like fossils, animal teeth, animal tracks, and logic puzzles. No pre-registration is necessary, just show up at the posted time and place!

In winter the museum provides free snowshoes for kids and adults, first come first served.

Outdoor exhibits (open May to mid-October) include a 250-foot stream where kids can play, float ping pong balls and learn about the power of water, build dams, and more. Bring sunscreen, hats, towels, and a change of clothes. Plan to do the indoor activities first, have lunch, then head outdoors to get wet!

Rooms and outdoor spaces are available to rent for birthday parties, weddings, and other events.

King Arthur Baking Company is right down the street and offers great coffee, fresh baked goods and full lunches, as well as a baking store. The kids will love watching the kitchens in action through the large viewing windows. Just across the river, Hanover offers a variety of boutique restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops. Watch for Appalachian Trail hikers crossing the bridge over the Connecticut River as they head north or south on their journey!
